starting and managing your own business course
You don't need any previous experience to undertake this course; however, you will need to have the willingness to learn and the desire to succeed.
  • a business idea, existing business or suitable business environment
  • a good command of written English
  • access to a standard computer and printer with word processing, spreadsheeting and an Internet connection (dialup or broadband)
  • reasonable computer skills
  • as little as an hour a week to learn

The personal attributes you will need to have include:

  • an interest in business establishment and small business management
  • good communication skills
  • good organisational skills
  • leadership skills
  • enjoy working with people
  • a willingness to learn and the desire to succeed

For your convenience you may be able to study this course by distance education in three different ways: correspondence, eLearning and online. For all of these methods, you study at home, at work or wherever is convenient. You choose the day and time which suits you best. You do not attend classes, so travel is not involved. For some courses class-based learning might be available.

The method of learning available is indicated against each course. Not all courses offer all methods of learning.

Correspondence: If you have elected to have your course delivered by correspondence, all the learning and assessment materials will be provided in printed format for you.

eLearning: If you have elected to have your course delivered by eLearning, all the materials will be provided on DVD for you, making them completely portable and interactive. To study in eLearning mode, you will require a standard computer with word processor and printer.

Online: If you are learning online, you will require a standard computer with word processor and Internet connection (dial-up or broadband) to access the course online, and an email account to submit your assignments.

Class-based: If you are undertaking this course in a classroom you will receive your materials in printed format when you attend class.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

If you feel you might be able to gain credit exemptions for national modules, please contact the College for an initial discussion and an RPL Application Guide.

RPL fees, for Credit Transfer (CrT) of qualifications under 2 years old and for Work/life experience Recognition of Current Competence (RCC) assessments, are the same as normal course fees.

RPL fees are paid prior to assessment and are non-refundable if credit is not achieved.

If you are applying for RPL:

  • Credit Transfer (CrT): You will need to submit qualifications that are under 2 years old.
  • Work/life (RCC): You will need to submit evidence to show your knowledge and skills are current.
