Travel writers and journalists write for the travel industry, for magazines, for newspapers, for corporate promotional materials and for the broadcasting industry. A travel writer/journalist may perform the following tasks:

  • visit local, national and overseas tourism destinations and write articles and features for publication
  • take photographs of tourism destinations for publication with travel articles
  • undertake research to provide background information for articles
  • assess the suitability of reports and articles for publication or broadcasting, within an established style and format, and edit as necessary
  • comment on television/radio (in the broadcasting industry)
  • liaise with all sorts of people, particularly those in the media and tourism business.
