Professional photography-better than retirement

Photography students have high praise for the Professional Photography for Beginners Course through Australian College.

"Now I don't have to think about retiring at 65 just because my career is at an end," says John Pragnell, aged 42 from Queensland. "Because of the course I'm now pursuing my own professional photography business so it's not something I need to worry about anymore. Photography is not an industry that cut's you off because of age."
Ms Julia Buxton, the College Principal, agrees. "We have students in our course from 18 years into their 70s. Photography is a perfect business opportunity for mature people and for those who aren't ready to retire. And it doesn't matter whether you have picked up a camera before or read a book on it, this course will teach you something special you can't read in any book."

Peter Endersbee, professional photographer and tutor for the course, says, "The problem with relying on just learning from articles and books is that they often fail to explain the technology of photography and the thinking behind what makes a good exposure. They don't really go into the nuts and bolts, the practical issues. In this course what we try to do is to demystify the process so that students can begin to emulate what professional photographers seem to do as if by magic. A lot of articles gloss over the surface. They might tell you to do something but they don't tell you how to do it. That's where we come in. We try to spell it out for the student. Take the mystery out of it all."

John Pragnell says, "I am currently in the process of putting a coffee table book of black and white photography together and this basically came from Peter's guidance and help. He really gave me a lot more than I ever imagined. When I first enrolled in the course I was mystified by a couple of the topics, like Still Life, but when I got to it I just loved it. Doing the course just opened my eyes up. It was awesome. As I went along and learned and progressed I just got better. The course has opened up my whole world."
