Welcome to David’s exciting world of media!

David Styles has a wealthy career spanning business development and sales, strategic marketing, promotional management, public relations direction and corporate promotion.

“I’ve really been fortunate,” David says, “because I work in an industry I love. The pizzazz, excitement and colour of this business is incredibly invigorating. This industry is so full of variety there is really a role for everyone. You just need to learn the trade.”

David Styles started his career in sales and marketing roles in 1987 as a ‘cub’ salesman for a multinational manufacturer. Over the next two decades he built on his earliest professional experiences in electronics repair and maintenance, to carve out a career path focused mainly on technical products and services in both industrial and consumer marketplaces.

During almost nine years with Dutch global electronics giant Philips Electronics, David learnt both the theory and practice of professional selling, key account management, and customer relationship skills and after having achieved sales success in tough economic conditions in his Melbourne-based role was promoted to a product management role at the Division’s Sydney Head Office where he got his first taste of executive management and marketing management, initially in business-to-business environments.
A move to icon electrical manufacturer HPM Industries saw David’s earliest dealings with the sales and marketing of consumer and trade products in wholesale, mass merchant and retail markets and coincided with the beginning of his studies for a Master of Business Administration degree, which he completed in 2002 with a strong focus on strategic marketing management.

After three years with HPM, David moved back to Melbourne and opened a strategic marketing consultancy business to utilise the academic knowledge and practical experience he had gained in a broad range of projects. He then took a senior position with the Asia-Pacific operations of US-based Fasco Motors Group, a subsidiary of the Nasdaq-listed Tecumseh Products Company. During that time, he set the strategic market agenda for the region including new product and new market entry strategies, and simultaneously led and managed the Australian sales and marketing teams.

Today, David is working in the professional sales and marketing arena as a corporate business broker where specialises in businesses ranging from $1 million to $50 million.
Married with two young boys, David lives in Melbourne and in addition to his duties as a committed husband and father he also enjoys creative and business writing, and tutoring students who are seeking to enter the field of public relations, promotion and marketing.

“I want to pass on what I have learnt,” says David. “Students wanting to enter this field can benefit immensely from undertaking a course. Not only does it give them the skills and knowledge they need to get into this business but it also opens doors to a network of contacts in the industry.”
