Welcome to Leila’s world of Professional Editing, Proofreading and Publishing!

Leila has her own established editing and proofreading business ‘Proofreading For You’, which she manages from her country home in NSW—while watching the lambs, calves and grass grow.

Leila commenced her working career as a bank clerk in a small town that eventually led her to Sydney. She had her sights set on secretarial work and after acquiring the necessary skills at college pursued a secretarial/personal assistant pathway with an Australian national company.

When the time came for a career change Leila decided to follow a friend’s encouragement to become a part-time TAFE teacher in the area of office studies. Too late to enrol in the required course, which was 12 months class attendance, and too impatient to wait until the next year Leila enrolled in a correspondence course that she completed in half the time. Graduating six months later she cut her teaching teeth at several local colleges then applied for and was accepted into TAFE as a full-time teacher.

The time eventually came for a tree change and Leila moved to a small farm in the country. In addition to farm work Leila looked around for some work she could do from home—several endeavours proved that she is not a salesperson! However, a flier in the mail one day drew her attention to a course that would enable her to transfer some of her teaching skills to the publishing industry and do freelance work from home. As soon as she saw it Leila knew this was exactly what she was looking for.

Working with words has dominated almost all of my working life,” Leila says. “Being able to bring these skills to life with my students, and pass on the knowledge I have gained over the years, is a most rewarding and enjoyable experience.”

Leila has always been passionate about accuracy in language and spelling and she has tried to instil this passion in her students. Much of her time has been spent on proofreading students’ work and helping them to understand any problems along the way.

As well as working on the farm, running her business and tutoring students, Leila has edited a book of poems and short stories for a local author and regularly proofreads articles for the editor of the local newspaper.

Leila has a Masters degree in Adult Education, a Diploma of Business Administration, a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, qualifications in editing and proofreading, and she is a member of The Society of Editors (NSW).

This is a wonderful opportunity for students to be tutored by a successful industry editor and proofreader.
