Welcome to Marilyn’s world of Professional Editing, Proofreading and Publishing!

Marilyn is a teacher of editing, proofreading and professional writing, as well as owner of her own successful editing and training business in Victoria.
With over 17 years as a teacher and 14 years as a trainer, Marilyn has gained extensive experience tutoring others in copyediting, business writing, academic writing, grammar, and computer skills. In addition, Marilyn has held such roles as Vice-President of the Council of John Batman Institute of TAFE and President of Women in Management.

Marilyn started out as a teacher, gaining her Bachelor of Arts and Diploma of Education through Monash University. Deciding on a career change, Marilyn held positions such as Head of Community Programs for VicRoads, Director of Southern Cross Training, and Civics Education Officer for the City of Boroondara. This led her in the direction of business writing and non-fiction editing and publishing. In addition to the Advanced Management Program and Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, Marilyn undertook Professional Writing and Editing and developed her skills in the field of editing, proofreading, publishing and writing.

Before setting out as a freelance editor, writer and trainer in her own company—Marilyn Bowler & Associates—Marilyn undertook the role of Project Officer for the Curriculum Corporation. This gave her a magnified view of the academic industry and further strengthened her expertise in this demanding field.

Marilyn is now at the peak of her profession, with a highly regarded name in the industry and the ability to tailor her career around her lifestyle.

“As a writer and editor, I am familiar with what the publishing industry requires,” says Marilyn. “As an experienced teacher and trainer, I am also familiar with providing students with feedback that both encourages them and enables them to do better in future. Finally, as an editing teacher at Victoria University, a western suburbs university, I am aware of students’ diverse cultural backgrounds and the wide range of grammatical and writing skills they may possess.”
