Welcome to Vicki’s world of training, assessing, editing, proofreading and publishing!
Since 1999 Vicki has worked full time as well as freelancing in roles that involve
technical writing, editing, proofreading and document creation.
Vicki began her career in editing as a data entry operator, working with editors in an engineering firm as part of a large government environmental impact statement project. This led to a position as case administrator for a private medico-legal
company, initially typing up dictated reports and later editing and proofreading them. She also gained skills in marketing, librarianship, accounting and IT.
Vicki later gained a position with the Red Cross Blood Service as a database
administrator and technical writer. This role expanded Vicki’s skill set to include
technical writing (user guides), training (Word, Excel and bespoke databases) and statistics.
Vicki currently works as an editor for a risk and security management company mainly editing, proofreading and formatting reports and proposals. Together with another
editor, she looks after the Asia Pacific offices of the company.
Concurrent with her full-time work since 2004, Vicki has been working as a freelance editor, mainly editing academic material, including theses.
I feel it is good for an editor to have a range of skills. I like to encourage my students to learn as much as they can. In this way I feel they are better prepared for a range of positions in a variety of fields.
Vicki also volunteers with ISRA (Islamic Sciences and Research Academy) as an
editor, proofreader, exam supervisor and assessor for the academy’s university degree courses. At ISRA
she helps students with essay writing techniques and referencing.
Vicki has a Diploma of Professional Writing (Editing and Proofreading), Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Technical Communications. She is a member of the Society of Editors (NSW) and passed the IPED exam in 2011 to become an accredited editor. Vicki is also a Justice of the Peace.
With Vicki’s feedback, support and guidance, we know you will find your course a rewarding, stimulating and positive experience—and one that may just change your life!
