So, if you seriously want to be considered for the job then you must indicate to the employer that you are an active contributor. That you are happy to pull your weight. The first way you demonstrate this is by putting a little effort into your email application.

You don't have to write a lot; in some cases just a few sentences that show the employer you are keen. Let's be honest, employers are not looking for lazy people. An employer is going to invest quite a lot of money in you: interview time, sometimes a recruitment agency, training, salary, superannuation, payroll tax, worker's compensation, benefits, a workstation and computer, leased space in the office, and a number of other costs that you probably don't even think about. This can add up to quite an investment. Employers have to work hard to bring this money into the company and they are not likely to consider investing it in you if you can't be bothered to make even a small effort in your application.
